John Fogarty

John is a seasoned financial crime and regulatory compliance executive with 40 years of experience, commencing his career in the NSW Police Force, before moving into regulatory roles at Sydney Futures Exchange and Australian Stock Exchange. His career then included senior roles at UBS and CLSA across Sydney, Singapore and Hong Kong, followed by Money Laundering Reporting Officer roles with HSBC Australia and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA).

John led the reform of CBA's AML/CTF, counter terrorism financing, economic sanctions, and anti-bribery and corruption frameworks and remediation following AUSTRAC's enforcement action from 2018 through to his executive retirement in June 2026.

During that time John was a member of the FINTEL Alliance Executive Advisory Board and former Co-Chair, developing strong networks with law enforcement and government agencies.

John is now an independent adviser to AML RightSource, and the Griffith University Industry Advisory Board for the Academy of Excellence in Financial Crime Investigation and Compliance, where he has been awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of the University by Griffith University for distinguished service to Financial Crime Compliance.

John is also a current Non-Executive Director of ICMEC Australia.

Throughout his career, John has helped advance the maturity of financial crime frameworks through practical implementation, close collaboration with executive teams, regulators and law enforcement, with a strong commitment to developing industry capability. His perspective is shaped by a belief that more effective cooperation, data sharing and sustainable frameworks are essential to preventing financial crime.
